i did alot of research before i made the deciscion to purchase this, read some horror stories, and alot of people are running em wit no problems and making some serious h.p.

so onward with the dismanteling

i was pretty stoked up until i started to try and spin the gears, one of the lower planetary gears seemed to be seized, upon further investigation
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...TkwMS5qcGc.jpg

there was a ridge left from the machining process it 's pretty hard to see, but it's there

this is the best shot i got of it

F22bluez 04-15-2010 09:10 PM

all of the area's for the planets and sun gears were still realy rough from the milling process, so i went to town with the dremel, started out with the die grinder for the ridge, then went to the green grinding stone, then the sanding drum, then the polisher and this is what i got
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...TkxMi5qcGc.jpg
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...DgwNi5qcGc.jpg
there was one other area that sketched me out
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...TcwMi5qcGc.jpg
it's the alignment tab for the two housing's but a lil dremel and then ifelt safe about it

F22bluez 04-15-2010 09:14 PM

now onto to reassembly
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...DkxMS5qcGc.jpg
this is what i used for the "break in " lube

being very liberal
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...DkxMy5qcGc.jpg
i coated the entire housing for the planetaries, sun gears an inner race gears
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...DkyMi5qcGc.jpg
got er all lubed up and almost ready for instalation

waiting to get new bolts to connect the two shell's, gonna pick up some 6 or 12 point's, either grade 8 or 10.9, whatvers available lol

more to come, gotta get back to work lol

terrynfischer 04-15-2010 11:14 PM

OH SHIT MAN this is awesome but ??? you can just dremmel on that? and how does it feel now? im guessing it is nice and smooth now since yor puttin it together. Just askin If it was'nt perfect when i got a part like that i would have sent that shit back

Pata078 04-15-2010 11:28 PM

hmm, almost makes me want to move to DIY lol

looking good so far.

in for more pics.

SweetHonda24 04-16-2010 05:16 AM

Nice! What made you disassemle the LSD? I wouldn't have thought to pull it apart and check the quality of the inner workings.

terrynfischer 04-16-2010 11:15 AM

yeah seriously I would have sent that shit back. well actually I would have just slaped it in and would have been very pissed when it didnt work out. lol well I geuss we know what we should do when doing this lol

F22bluez 04-16-2010 01:56 PM

if ya wanna move it to diy that's kewl, idc really lol. i figured i'd post it here cuz i felt it more of a product review more than diy

if i wasn"t on a time frame issue i'd consider sending it back, but then i'd have to pay for shipping.

what made me take it apart was from the research i've done, there were a batch made (when i don"t know) where the threads were stripped, and the fact that the gear's didn"t move freely made me really sketched out so i tore it apart.

so now it moves fairly well, but with that trans gel in there it's prettty stiff, but once it's installed the oil will get in there and should be good to go

monday we start manual trans in school, re-doing the synchros and bearings. Hopefully the overhaul should only take about a week, day one will be removal of the trans from the bay, and tear down. now thatit's the weekend there won"t be any more work done.

F22bluez 04-16-2010 09:18 PM

this is where i did alot of my research about the lsd if ne1's interested
http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1714724

http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1524643

F22bluez 04-21-2010 08:57 PM

terrynfischer 04-22-2010 10:48 AM

chris42192 04-30-2010 02:33 PM

CAR is probably what he means..

terrynfischer 04-30-2010 05:29 PM

AHHHH i see

F22bluez 05-01-2010 11:20 AM

ya car lol, basically the stock diff has recess' cut into the diff casing so you can torque the bolts down with a socket...........ya the obx don"t got that, it's pretty sweet tring to torque down 80 ft/lbs on a 1/4" drive socket

F22bluez 05-05-2010 05:50 PM

so here's the stock diff
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...DczMS5qcGc.jpg
and now the obx
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...DczOC5qcGc.jpg

see the differences lol

F22bluez 05-05-2010 05:53 PM

all the retaining bolts have a flange on them, and they ALL had to be ground down to fasten the damm thing
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...Dc0MC5qcGc.jpg

the impact wont fit
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...Dk0Ni5qcGc.jpg
neither will the deep well
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...Dk0Ni5qcGc.jpg
or the short well
http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...Dk0Ny5qcGc.jpg
only the quarter inch drive............
