Your old one was bad or what? Are you sure is or maybe you just need to charge the Ac.

yeah, you're not supposed to open up the a/c system and let the gas escape. if you do, just do it outside in an open area so the fumes don't build up.

there are bleeder valves that let the freon gas out. bleed the system first and then you can remove the compressor. YES letting the freon into the atmosphere is against the law and it is not good for the environment.

Do you see that Blue Top that's on your Ac Hoses? It's rite in front of your Header.
Remove that Blue Top and you'll see the Ac Valve. It looks like a Big Tire Valve.
Push the Valve with a small screw driver or something and you'll hear the pressure come out.

The only thing is I've never done this before so I don't know how you'll feel if you smell it or what. I've Removed Ac systems before but they were not Charged. Remember that Curiosity Killed a Cat:mrgreen:

There are 2 issues with DIY compressor replacement, aside from venting R134a into the atmosphere. First is that AC systems have oil in them, without the proper amount of oil you WILL burn up the new compressor. Second AC machines also pull vacuum on the system, the reciever/drier is there to keep moisture out of the system. If you want to replace the compressor yourself that is o.k., I would reccomend taking it to a shop to evacuate, vacuum, inject oil & properly recharge the system mainly to avoid replacing the compressor again.

Go to salvage yards around your area and see if you find a good one. I went to one on Tuesday and there was a 94 Civic 4dr crashed in the Rear. Everything was clean on that damn Car.
