Do you still have the amber reflector on or did your take it off? And do you mean white turn signal bulbs?

It's all up to you. which do you think you'd like better? personally i'd say the clear lights would look better on a black or white car. but if your car isn't black or white, then i'd say stick with the amber.

As for whether it looks clean or not, personally I'd vote no, but that's just me. It's up to you to decide whether or not you like the look. Bulbs aren't horribly expensive, you can always just buy some and try it.

Be forewarned though, in most states (if not all states) anything other than orange turn signals (or red if they're part of the tail light) are illegal.

I guess I don't understand what you're trying to do here. How else are you going to get white signals if not by changing the bulbs?? And yes, you're right, the bulbs themselves won't be white, they'll probably actually be blue. Just cruise on down to autozone or o reilly's or whatever and pick up a set, they shouldn't cost you more than $5-$10.
