Default How to install an aftermarket Tachometer.

My step brother just bought a 91 Civic Hatch, Its a manual and it doesnt come stock with a tach. The previous owner has an aftermarket tach in the car but it isnt picking up the RPMs. So the tach is lighting up and everything, but just not serving its purpose. Any ideas on how to hook one of them up?

there is a wire on the back for the gauge cluster that is the RPM signal for the tach. I'm pretty sure all civics from that model year were prewired for tachs. I forget the color of the wire though. But I used it when i had an aftermarket tachometer. I prefer the stock on though since the aftermarkt one brought too much attention. People thought my car was fast and constantly wanted to race, lol.

EDIT: what brand tachomter is it? you could find instructions on their website too.

There is no stock one.
There is every other gauge except for an Tach.
Likes there is no spot for it at all.

he is refering to the wire harness behind the guage cluster i imagine, or at the ECU....the accord tach wire is green...at any rate, justr chk the pinout for your ECU, find the tach wire and connect the tach to that line.

Sounds like it got Disconnected from the little Wires that pop out from the Distributor cap on top????
I've installed Auto Meter Tacs before and even Shift Lights through those Wires.......

ya it is just a hot wire that you run to the coil if your car has a distributor and if not you have to buy a special sensor that clips on a spark plug wire and reads it that way.
