Default Maryland Sucks!

I took my Audi to get a safety inspection so I can get it registered in MD. Apparently I need 2 front tires, 2 rear brake discs, brake hoses all the way around, left rear tie rod assembly, and a new muffler. They said it would be $2400 for parts and labor. F THAT! If I still lived in VA it would have passed with flying colors. I'd rather pay a ticket for not having my car registered than pay $2400. I looked up parts online and I can get them a lot cheaper than what they quoted. All my tools are back at my parents house in VA, so I guess I am gonna drive back there and try, with try being the keyword, to fix most of this stuff myself. From working past experiences working on the Audi, its not gonna be fun....

man i'm so glad we don't have inspections in Ohio. I'd say try doing at much as you can by yourself. definitely not worth paying $2400.

So are these inspections done by state inspectors or is this one of those "certified" inspectors at Jim Bob's Garage? Glad the only inspections we have here are emissions.

it is a one time deal that is done at the "certified" places. I went to merchants tire. so yeah i guess i could get a better deal somewhere else, but i'm worried that it could be worse instead of better. plus its $60 just to have them look at it.

Can you just Register the Audi in VA and have it in MD? Would it work like that or it doesn't work Like that?

I know how you feel paying all that and Prefer to get ticketed for it Instead but seriously it wouldn't be worth it cause wouldn't go in your Driving Record?

there really is no point in getting it inspected in va b/c i live in md. i would get a ticket anyway for living in MD and not having it registered here. but i see your thinking...

I'm Confused. So VA Inspects you Car so it can be Safely Registered in another State?
When does your Registration Expire or What?

va has state inspections every year. mine ran out back in november so i took the sticker off my car. so the car doesnt have a current inspection in either state. my registration in va is good until october.

md has 1 state safety inspection and thats it. no stickers, just a certificate you take to the MVA to get your car registered. i am supposed to get my car registered in md within 60 days of moving here and get a md drivers license. i have been here for 7 months now.
