So, the final thoughts of how this happened was #2 rod bearing was already going and the metal flakes and shreds were getting the oil pick up tube clogged up and I guess oil pump was not juicing up the motor so oil light came on. How to tell this was happening when you're driving on the highway. 199k miles on it.
Anyways, just wanted to share these pics...

edit:
Hopefully the D16y8 block goes to the machine shop this weekend!

Arrow Machine Shop update

I dropped off the Block at the machine shop.
(sorry cell pix)

items dropped off:
-Bare Block
-crank
-girdle
-oil pick up tube
-oil pan
-rods w/ pistons

Dude told me that the crank is not going to be enough for standard bearings :/ didn't want to cut journal and go with thicker bearings...

So we went ahead and got another crank and another rod w/ piston so we can get this thing done.

It will all be done this Wed.

Damn, parts looking fresh now...

I'd do the same by picking up another Y8 crank instead of trying to fix the old one.

Arrow Update!

finally had a chance to do more work.
Plastigage crank's main journals and rod journals spec'd out within service limit. Good deal!

Block on engine stand
(Here was the plastigage job)

Main bearings on

plastigage on main journals

Girdle going on

didn't get a picture of plastigage torque results but it was within specs.
You guys get the picture.

Piston Rings.
Let me show you how we put the piston rings on, clock them and punch them into cylinder with piston ring compressor.
disclaimer:
This is how I did it so please verify with your own specs/owners manual sheets.

bare piston

lower set of rings on

middle ring on

top ring on

now to clock them
going by the book, here's the sheet

and that's how they have to go

then with a piston ring compressor, without moving the rings, compress piston

notes before punching in pistons:
lather some motor oil on cylinders so they can slip right in. Lubrication ; )

Gotta give bottom end of piston a little bit of clearance so you can insert it into cylinder like so..

using the other end of a rubber mallet, punch the top of the piston in cylinder

and in she goes...

same steps for all..
