Default Car won't start

So riddle me this. I have a 1994 honda civic dx. I have 154,000 miles. I just got back from Virginia. The car didn't give me problems on the trip but it has before. Here is the issue:

Cold start in the morning car will start then moments I'm talkin' not 5 seconds later the car just shuts off. Battery indicator lights and oil lamp lights. Everything works fine music still playing. I try turning the key again just cranks doesn't start. I have to wait about 5-10 minutes for me to try again. Gambling, I'll turn the key, car starts I'm on the road 30 minutes no problem. On occasions if I do start the car in the morning and it manages to hold out I'll drive 5 minutes and blam... it just stops on me. I have to sit there in traffic like a fool trying to crank her up again. It seems after all that annoying part is over with as long as that car has been running it won't shut off on me for the day. Leave it overnight in the garage and having that cold start is just a pain. What the funk?

Car's history: replaced distributor cap & rotor, replaced spark plugs & wires, fuel filter has been replaced, oxygen sensor replaced, main power relay replaced. I'm running out of options and money. Any suggestions?

Hmmmmmmmmm maybe fuel relay????? I have heard of this but never witnessed it. do you hear like a click of some kind coming from under the dash? before it shuts off. if it is the relay you will hear like just a little click and then you will notice you lose power and it will chug to a stop because it is shutting iff your fuel pump. I dont even know if hondas have these relays but thats what it sounds like to me?

I think the main power relay that I mentioned above was replaced. I'm sure that controls anything that deals with the fuel transfers. I don't know if it was a coincidence or not but I removed the spark plug cables from the distributor cap and noticed there was some soot, black residue. I cleaned them up right quick and placed them back into the distributor. I remote started my car and behold the car started without a problem. Above to head downstairs and see if it'll start again. Gonna run it for a few minutes. I got a date and I need this car to at least get me to the destination. Thanks for the response!

If you read in the above thread that was one of the many things replaced for my car. Try again! Btw, according to the last posts. I started the car warmed it up in my garage by pressing and holding the gas pedal. The car ran with no problem outside of the house. Stay tuned for tomorrow morning with the cold start.

Quick question about the alternator though. I'm sure my battery is fine but if the alternator is shot... wouldn't the car not start at all?

If your battery is good but your alternator is bad it will Slowly suck the power out (like radio will shut off and such)

Also check for hanging grounds ( I think thats what its called) check fuses and such

I would take the alternator to an auto parts store so they can test it for you.

I know autozone does a test for free.

Might be a fuel pump going bad?

Anyhow, I started the car this morning... I turned everything to accessories first, listened for the fuel pump to start up, then cranked it. It was rough to start it... struggled a little to stay idle but it held its own for the first crank. Still considering that it did struggle there is something wrong.

Anyone ever change their distributor cap? You know that rubber seal that comes with the new one? What exactly does that do?

By the way the Battery is to start the Car the Alternator keeps the car running based on the power the battery gives it

So if your alternator is bad it cant "recharge" the battery so your battery will die because thats the only thing running your car..
So if your battery is good but your alternator is bad your car will start but will die after like 45 mins of driving ( and backfire your lights will go out and your car will die out of no where) So yeah get that checked

By the way Were all pretty close here alot of us have been posting for YEARS on this site (myself Ive been on here since 2004) So Come at us right We can be very helpful and can honestly call you an extended family member after awhile
So I hope this helped a little and hopefully your car is running good
anymore help im sure we can help you or if not we can point you in the direction that will

Very good boys

I edited out all off topic quotes (yours too SweetHonda, hope you don't mind).

Please carry on with the topic of this thread and try to find the solution.

Please don't waste my time and make me edit out disclaimers and lame ass quotes.
It's all done and over with now.
