congrats, once you get out on the road you will love it. The best advice i can give you is what my dad told me when i got my first bike.

Be safe and he always told me to not think about IF you wreck, rather WHEN you wreck. He said eventually everone wrecks on a bike. rather its in the driveway, one a side road or on the highway. not all wrecks kill riders and once you get that through your head you will be fine. that advice was my best friend on the road. i always kept myself aware of ways to make any situation the least painless for me. kind of an exit strategy i guess.

it sounds kind of dumb but trust me, when you get out there it makes sense.

have fun and enjoy your toy

after riding the bike once, i already assumed there will be a day when i go down. like you said its just a matter of minimizing the damage.
