Default speaking spanish

So I have been really really wanting to learn Spanish. I went out and bought some Spanish software and a English to Spanish dictionary. I have learned a good a amount but I feel like I am not doing something right. I know it takes time to learn but I just want to learn it the quickest way possible.

Any advice how I can speak and understand Spanish fluently?

I took three years of it in high school all on a college level kind of coarse, and I can speak it pretty good, not perfect but pretty good, best advice, get some workbooks (sounds kinda childish i know..), some videos, andything that will teach you and move at your own pace, its really not that hard to catch on and after a while in the beginning you will relize what im talking about. Buena Suerte....

yeah the best way to learn it is to get a good base of vocab. and of how the language works such as the endings to words -o, -es, -amos, etc.... then just speak it as much as you can. i can read Spanish no problem, but i never had enough practice listening and speaking so i have a hard time making conversation. i can get my point across, but it might not make too much sense. i took 4 yrs in high school btw.

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

I could have a fluent conversation with someone in German, but Spanish...I'd be lost...

dang this thread took off

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have actually been using Rosetta stone now for about 3 days and yes it is an awesome program but I still feel like I am missing something.

I just quit my job on the 25th of this month for school but while I was there I learned a few things in Spanish from the mexican people there. My best friend is mexican actually and he said he is going to start teaching me.

Also, our Spanish channel here on regular cable is channel 67 so I have been watching that a lot lately. I dont know if that will help or not because I can not understand anything they are saying but I figure its like being a kid and not knowing english, but when your hearing it spoken it just comes to you lol idk. You think watching the spanish channel will help me, confuse me, or just be a wate of time?

I was in iraq for 2 years, learned all kinds of words. I could just start to understand bits and pices of conversations, enough to just grasp what they were talkin about. Holding a conversation was something completly different. I think it all depends on the person to a degree.

I had no choice but to learn spanish. My bf is spanish. He does speak english, but his mom and dad refuse to. So anytime I am around them..they just talk spanish. I am sure they do it on purpose because they don't like me. I guess it gives me more of a reason to learn it..hehe. I def understand it better than I speak it. I'm getting there.
