Default axial back exhaust only

So i dont have the money to get a shiny new exhaust system my car already has a deep silent rumble to it (I hear it more when im gunning it from a stop sign). would there be any better changes to the sound if i only got a realy nice 6in round axial with a 4in tip?

I predict that your car will sound WORSE with that muffler on it. The round mufflers with big tips tend to be raspy and very loud. If you want something that has a bit of growl to it but still somewhat subtle, then look into mufflers with smaller tips that are shaped like stock mufflers (oval shaped, not round). Magnaflow and Flow Master make some nice ones.

Or you could just save up for a full exhaust. Sometimes it's better to save up and do things right the first time, rather then just settling for temporary solutions...

It's not that expensive to get a good exhaust piping done to your car today. Just find a decent muffler on Craigslist and go to a muffler shop to get the exhaust done. You don't have to get a new shiney exhaust system. Local Muffler shop down the street from me charged me $80 to do a 2-1/4" cat-back exhaust piping on my civic.

great i'm on a mission now, i read an article in import tuner, modified mag, super street one of em, in which they interviewed a design engineer for a exhaust company (can't find the right mag right now) he was talking about the design of mufflers about how the size of the inlet in comparison to the inner diameter of the muffler in comparison to the outlet size have a direct effect on backpressure and horse power.

the jist of it, was they bought a knock off fart can, installed it and lost 20 horse just cuz a the can.

april 09 import tuner, fact or fiction section. hollowed out cat myth. hollowing out the cat actually increases turbulent exhaust gasses, increasing back pressure, loosing hp

Question

what do you think my exhaust is doing to my performance?

I have a y7 with a ebay header, test pipe (no cat), 2-1/4" exhaust piping and my stock axle back exhaust with my stock muffler.

did I increase back pressure?

Okay okay so i went online to search for a universal muffler to save some cash but now im confused because i dont know which one i should get? (axial back w/resonator) theres like four 5*8 oval mufflers but with different sizes outlets/inlets and all types of stuff whats the difference of the sizes and which one would give me a rumble instead of a rasp i dont want a fart cannon lol. yeah by the way i only wanted the oval round one cuz in my town i see everybody with them some are nice and small others are huge rocket launchers those are the real annoying ones (off topic) i dont want to be a ricer

yes look.

I bought this muffler a while back.
(I bought it from some dude on craigslist for $20)

Then I took it to a muffler shop and requested 2-1/4" piping along with my muffler installed.

as you can see, it is now a Cat back exhaust.
In order you can see:
my ebay header (can't really see it)
my test pipe (in place of a Cat)
some 2-1/4" piping
my stock resonator (I had them reuse it so I wont buy a new one)
the rest of the 2-1/4" piping
and then the muffler I bought.

They charged me $80.

Some might say "that sh!t look like a hack job". It was cheap and it worked for me.

Now I just took off the muffler with a section of the piping from the axle back and put my Stock muffler back on.

I got a ticket for it and got stopped 2 more times for it but I showed them the citation lol.

It was a fix it ticket so I put my stock muffler back on. It did sound raspy at the end but that's because I don't have a Cat. If I had a Cat. it would have sounded better. Oh well.

I still have my exhaust

Noob question #993-#994: so when you have a "cat back" does that mean your catalytic converter is behind your resonator instead of before it? and if it does, thats means it will lower down that rasp noise?

cat back means you are replacing the piping from the catalytic coverter back. the resonontor is between the cat and the muffler, so when adding an exhaust system you need to have your old one added back in or replaced with a new one.
